KODY JEL: A12, A13, B11, B12, B15, Q01, Q56, Q58Artykuł jest próbą wstępnej identyfikacji głównych obszarów zainteresowania tematyką koncepcji Enviromental, Social, Governance (ESG) z uprzednim wskazaniem, przyczyn zainteresowania tym tematem, wynikających ze zmian w naukach ekonomicznych. Autorka rozpoczyna analizę od dostrzeżenia potrzeby zmian w nauce i konieczności podważenia statusu quo. Wskazuje najbardziej aktualny temat, pobudzający międzynarodowe dyskusje, jakim jest zrównoważony rozwój. Zwraca również uwagę, na zainteresowanie problemem łączenia dwóch pozornie wykluczających się perspektyw – chęci zysku i potrzeby umiaru - oraz podkreśla zwiększenie zainteresowania tym tematem w XX wieku. W drugiej części artykułu podjęto próbę wyjaśnienia koncepcji ESG. Autorka przedstawia – w oparciu o literaturę przedmiotu – definicję, zarys historyczny, zalety i wady tej koncepcji. Wyniki przeprowadzonej analizy stanowią ogólną podstawę dla rekomendacji dotyczących wykorzystania koncepcji ESG dla pobudzania konkurencyjności przedsiębiorstwa z perspektywy inwestorów oraz zachęcają do dalszych badań nad jej istotą.

The article is an attempt to initially identify the main areas of interest in the subject of the concept of Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) with prior indication of the reasons for interest in this topic resulting from changes in economic sciences. The author begins the analysis by noticing the need for changes in science and the need to challenge the status quo. It indicates the most current topic that stimulates international discussions, which is sustainable development. She also draws attention to the interest in the problem of combining two seemingly mutually exclusive perspectives - the desire for profit and the need for moderation - and emphasizes the increased interest in this topic in the 20th century. The second part of the article explains the concept of ESG. The author presents - based on the literature on the subject - the definition, historical outline, advantages and disadvantages of this concept. The results of the analysis are the general basis for recommendations regarding the use of the ESG concept to stimulate the competitiveness of the company from the perspective of investors and encourage further research on its essence.
